CAUSE OF DEATH

"Motivation became too extreme; evolved into Insanity Wolf"

Obituary

PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY. TEAR IT OUT FASTER.

In late 2008, a wolf emerged from the primordial meme soup of 4chan. It stood against a radiant orange starburst background, eyes fierce, maw slightly open. It had one purpose: to make you feel like you could punch through a brick wall with your face.

Courage Wolf was the antidote to Advice Dog's bumbling guidance. Where Advice Dog might accidentally lead you astray, Courage Wolf grabbed you by the collar and screamed motivation directly into your soul.

"BITE OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW. THEN CHEW IT." "THE GLASS IS NOT HALF EMPTY. IT'S COMPLETELY FULL OF OPPORTUNITY." "THEY SAY YOU CAN'T. DO IT ANYWAY."

By April 2009, Courage Wolf submissions had surpassed Advice Dog itself. The student had become the master. A Tumblr blog launched in July 2009. A dedicated macro generator followed in 2011. The wolf was everywhere, screaming encouragement at anyone who needed to hear it.

The format was simple: first line presents a challenge, second line tells you to destroy it with extreme prejudice. It was toxic positivity before toxic positivity was a concept—but somehow, it worked. People genuinely felt motivated by a stock photo of a wolf and all-caps Impact font.

Courage Wolf eventually gave way to its darker cousin, Insanity Wolf, which took the extreme advice format and made it genuinely unhinged. The torch was passed. The legacy continued.

Rest now, brave wolf. You taught us that everything is possible if you're willing to be completely unreasonable about it.

AND THEN CHEW IT.
